In today’s fast-moving digital world, keeping kids safe online has never been more important — or more challenging. That’s why the Rotary Clubs of Lake County, the Polly Klaas Foundation, the Lake County Office of Education, and the Lake County Family Resource Center are coming together to host a powerful, free event for families in Middletown, Cobb, and Hidden Valley Lake.
Join us on Tuesday, January 27 at Middletown Middle School for an evening focused on real-world tools and honest conversations about online safety. This event is designed for parents and their 12–16-year-old children, and aims to create an open, informed space where families can learn how to navigate the risks that come with growing up online.
The seminar, presented by the Polly Klaas Foundation, will explore the very real dangers facing teens today — including online grooming, sextortion, and sex trafficking — and will offer practical advice on how to identify red flags, encourage healthy digital habits, and protect young people from exploitation. Families will also hear about the dangers of running away and how social media can play a role in unsafe situations.
But this isn’t just a serious conversation — it’s a community night, too. A free dinner will be served starting at 5:30 PM, and families who attend will receive a raffle ticket they can enter into the drawing of their choice. Prizes and gift cards donated by local businesses will be given away following the presentation, and free childcare will be available for younger siblings.
This event is completely free and open to the public. Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, guardian, or simply someone who cares about our youth, you are encouraged to attend.
